Cambridge, MA - June 22, 2005 - The Cambridge-Area Democracy for America Group voted to endorse Representative Pat Jehlen for State Senate in the 2nd Middlesex District.

Pat Jehlen, the incumbent State Representative from Somerville, is running in a special election to replace the late Senator Charles Shannon, who died in April of this year. Somerville is the largest part of this district, which also comprises Medford, Winchester and part of Woburn. The primary will be held on August 30th.

Representative Jehlen has been a strong advocate for progressive issues in the State House for fourteen years. A former member of the Somerville School committee, Jehlen has been an active leader in the community for decades. "We are fully behind Pat because she’s been with us all along," said steering committee member Ofer Inbar. Rep. Jehlen endorsed Howard Dean for President, has been a strong advocate for universal health care, marriage equality and the needs of working people and families. "Rep. Jehlen's long record of accomplishments makes her the clear progressive choice in this race," said group organizer Shai Sachs.

The Cambridge-Area Democracy for America Group ("Cambridge DFA") is a 2.5-year-old organization devoted to civic engagement, accountability in government, and progressive values. Cambridge DFA is composed of residents of Cambridge as well as surrounding towns, including Somerville, Medford, Belmont, Watertown and Winchester.
